Recognition tends to follow the path of least resistance. We thank the people we already work with most, for the things that are easiest to see. These two prompts are a nudge against that, giving you one small thing to notice each week.
Monday Momentum invites you to choose a focus for the week.
Before We Close checks in on Friday to show how it went, or gives you a last chance to act on it.
That's the whole thing. Two prompts, a few seconds each.
This is private
Your focus, your participation, and whether you completed anything are not visible to your manager or to administrators. There is no report, no dashboard, and no roll-up.
There is also no reward for completing a focus and no consequence for skipping one. The only thing you get is the habit, which is the point.
💡 Administrators: this is deliberate. The prompts work because people set an honest intention rather than one they'd be comfortable having reviewed. Making it visible would change what people choose.
Monday: choosing your focus
At the start of the week, a Monday Momentum banner appears on your home feed inviting you to start the week with intention. Click Choose my focus.
You'll see four categories, each asking a different question:
Category | The question it asks |
|---|---|
Reach beyond your usual circle | Who should I recognize? |
Make recognition more meaningful | How can I recognize them better? |
Notice everyday contributions | What contributions should I notice? |
See our values in action | Where are our values showing up? |
Pick a category and you'll get a handful of specific focuses within it. Sixteen in total across all four.
Reach beyond your usual circle
Recognize someone you've never recognized before
Recognize someone outside your immediate team
Recognize someone you haven't appreciated in a while
Welcome someone who recently joined the company
Make recognition more meaningful
Name exactly what someone did in a shoutout
Explain why someone's contribution mattered
Call out a strength someone brought to the work
Share what you personally appreciated about someone's contribution
Notice everyday contributions
Notice someone whose behind-the-scenes work keeps things moving
Notice someone whose consistency others rely on
Notice someone who shares knowledge, context, or time generously
Notice someone who helps others feel included
Notice someone who connects people or teams to move work forward
See our values in action
Notice one of your company values in action this week
Notice someone who stayed true to a value when it wasn't the easiest path
Connect a shoutout to one of your company values
Choose one and click Set my focus. You'll get a short confirmation, and your focus then sits in your sidebar as a quiet reminder under This week's focus.
⚠️ Your focus is locked in for the week once you set it, since progress is tracked against the focus you chose. If it turns out not to fit your week, leave it and pick something different next Monday.
During the week
Nothing is required. Go about your week.
Some focuses update on their own, because HiThrive can see whether they happened. Recognizing someone outside your team, for example, or someone you've never recognized before. If you do it, the focus completes without you touching anything.
Other focuses are about how you recognized someone or what you noticed, which HiThrive can't detect from activity alone. Those stay open until Friday, when you get the chance to connect them to a shoutout yourself.
Friday: Before We Close
At the end of the week, a Before We Close banner appears asking you to take a minute to reflect. Click Reflect on my week.
What you see depends on how the week went.
Your focus completed on its own. You'll see confirmation that your focus showed up this week, along with which shoutout did it. Something like: your shoutout to a colleague on Wednesday completed this goal. Click Continue and you're done.
Your focus is still open, and it's one you can act on now. You'll see a reminder of what you wanted to do and a prompt asking whether someone comes to mind. Say Not yet and the week closes quietly. Say Recognize someone and you go straight to the composer.
Your focus is one you need to connect yourself. You'll be shown the shoutouts you sent this week and asked where your focus showed up. Pick the one that best reflects what you noticed, or choose I haven't recognized them yet if none of them fit.
You didn't set a focus this week. You'll get a simpler prompt instead, asking who helped, supported, or made your work easier this week. Recognize someone or skip it.
You set a focus but sent no shoutouts. You'll see a note that it's not too late, with your focus shown and the option to act before the week ends.
Once your focus is complete, a Focus completed card replaces the prompt in your sidebar for the rest of the week.
Common questions
Can I change my focus mid-week?
No. Your focus is fixed once set, because progress is measured against it. You can choose something different the following Monday.
What if I miss a prompt?
Each one is only available for a short window, Monday Momentum at the start of the week and Before We Close at the end. If you miss one, it isn't a problem. A new prompt comes around next Monday.
Does my manager see any of this?
No. Not your focus, not your completion, not whether you participated at all.
Do I get points for completing a focus?
No. Completing a focus does not award or cost points. It's separate from your giveable and redeemable balances entirely.
Can I set a focus for my team?
No. Focuses are individual by design. If you want your team working on something together, a Challenge is the right tool: https://help.hithrive.com/help/how-to-use-hithrives-challenges
For administrators
There is nothing to configure. Both prompts run on their own.
There is nothing to report on. No participation data, completion rates, or focus selections are available in admin reporting, by design.
It won't affect your budget. No points are issued or spent.
Values-based focuses use your configured values, so the three focuses in that category reflect whatever you've set up. Worth confirming your values are in place and well described: https://help.hithrive.com/help/setting-up-your-company-values
What you may notice indirectly is a shift in recognition patterns, more first-time pairs and more cross-team shoutouts, since several focuses point that way. That shows up in your existing reporting as normal recognition activity, with no attribution back to the prompts.
If you're mentioning this in launch communications, the useful framing is that it's optional, private, and takes a few seconds. Framing it as a company initiative with expected participation would undercut what makes it work.
