The Dayforce HCM integration provides a one-way data sync of employee details from your Dayforce instance to your HiThrive team. User data is imported automatically on a nightly basis over an encrypted connection. Only the fields permissioned and mapped in HiThrive are accessed. No other employee details are accessed or saved.
Benefits of this integration:
New users are automatically created in HiThrive from Dayforce, reducing administrative workload
Users are updated automatically, keeping HiThrive data consistent with Dayforce as your source of truth
More accurate user data improves HiThrive reporting and administration
⚠️ To set up this integration, you need administrator permissions in Dayforce to access System Admin and create users and roles. If you don't have that access, identify who does in your organization before continuing.
Step 1: Create an integration user in Dayforce
Create a dedicated user account for HiThrive rather than using an existing employee account. This keeps the integration credentials separate from any individual and prevents the sync breaking when someone changes their password or leaves.
Log into your Dayforce instance as an administrator
Go to System Admin > Users
Create a new user named HiThrive Integration
Set a password
⚠️ Save the Company ID, Username, and Password. You will need all three in Step 3.
Step 2: Configure role permissions
The integration user must be assigned a role with Web Services access. You may already have a custom integration role, or you can configure an existing one.
Go to System Admin > Roles and select the relevant role
Navigate to the Features tab
Expand HCM Anywhere and enable Web Services
Under Web Services, confirm both Explorer and Read Data are checked
Save, then assign this role to the HiThrive Integration user created in Step 1
Setting | Location | Required |
|---|---|---|
Web Services | Features > HCM Anywhere | Yes |
Explorer | Features > HCM Anywhere > Web Services | Yes |
Read Data | Features > HCM Anywhere > Web Services | Yes |
Set the role as default
The role you configured must be the integration user's default role, not just one of the roles assigned to them. If it isn't, authentication will succeed but the sync will fail or return incomplete data.
Go to System Admin > Users
Find the HiThrive Integration user and open their record
Locate the role you configured above
Check the Is Default checkbox for that role
Save
⚠️ If you don't see a Web Services Field-Level Access tab on the Roles page, contact your Dayforce representative and ask them to enable it for the integration role. The integration will not function without it.
Step 3: Connect Dayforce in HiThrive
Navigate to app.hithrive.com/admin/settings/integrations. You must be assigned as a HiThrive Admin to access this page.
Find and select the Dayforce integration
Enter the following:
Field | Value |
|---|---|
Dayforce Company | The unique identifier for your Dayforce instance |
Dayforce Username | The username of the integration user from Step 1 |
Dayforce Password | The password of the integration user |
Click Login to Dayforce and wait for the connection to verify
If your credentials are rejected, confirm the integration user has the correct role assigned, that Web Services is enabled on that role, and that the role is set as default.
Step 4: Enable the integration and map fields
Once connected:
Toggle the integration to On
Next to Field Mapping, click Edit
Map the fields you want to sync. Email address is required at minimum, but map all applicable fields for best results
Click Save Fields
What gets synced
Field | Notes |
|---|---|
Email address | Required |
Date of birth | Drives birthday celebrations |
Start date | Drives work anniversary and new hire celebrations |
Job title | Appears in new hire announcements |
Employee ID | Used for manager reporting |
Reports To | Mapped by email address |
Teams | Used for segmentation and reporting |
Groups | Used for segmentation and reporting |
💡 If you are using milestone celebrations, confirm date of birth and start date are populated in Dayforce before your first sync. Missing dates are the most common reason celebrations do not fire.
What to expect after connecting
HiThrive begins syncing automatically each night. Your first sync may take a few hours to complete.
If the integration needs attention, for example if credentials expire or a password is rotated, you will receive an email from HiThrive prompting you to reconnect.
