Managing Sprout for your organization

General

Managing Sprout for your organization

Sprout, the AI writing assistant in the Shoutouts composer, is enabled by default. Admins can turn it off at any time.

Last updated on 06 Aug, 2026

Sprout helps team members write more specific recognition by prompting for context and generating a draft they can edit. It is available in Slack, Microsoft Teams, and the web app as an optional step inside the existing Shoutouts composer.

Recognition is personal, and this kind of assistance won't be right for every culture. Control over whether Sprout is available sits with your organization.

Turning Sprout off

  1. Navigate to your Shoutouts settings in the HiThrive admin portal

  2. Find the Writing Assistant setting

  3. Toggle it off

  4. Save your changes

The change applies across every surface immediately. Team members will no longer see the option to open Sprout from the composer in Slack, Teams, or the web app.

You can re-enable it at any time using the same setting.

What changes for your team

When Sprout is on: Team members see an option to open the writing assistant inside the composer. Using it is entirely their choice. Anyone who prefers to write their own shoutout simply doesn't open it.

When Sprout is off: The composer behaves as it did before Sprout launched. No option appears, and no other part of the shoutout flow is affected.

Either way, the rest of the Shoutouts experience is unchanged. Recipients, values, points, GIFs, and visibility settings all work the same.

How Sprout handles context

Sprout works only from what the sender types into it. It does not pull from employee profiles, past shoutouts, HRIS data, or performance records. If a sender provides thin context, Sprout asks a follow-up question rather than inventing detail.

Drafts are always editable before sending, and the sender chooses whether to send at all.
